Week15 – GRA3611

Welcome to week15!

In-class final critique
CARP will be stopping by for the final class critique at 9:30AM. I do not think they have reached a decision on the final logo (the reality of working for a real client). But their feedback will hopefully be insightful. I have not yet heard any details.

FINALS DUE
I would like to collect all final work.
Make sure you have folders on dropbox titled stages #5,6 and 7 updated with your final work.
For the deck of cards I would like to collect a version of the templated illustrator file I posted in week3.
In it you should include:

  • The number 10 card in all 4 suits
  • One of each of the following cards: Jack, Queen, King, Ace, Jocker (remember I prefer quality over quantity – so only save finalized pieces in the folder).
  • The back of your card – which should/could include your name and URL – if indeed you will use them one day as a means for self-promotion.

I will accept final work until Friday Dec 20 at 5PM.

I wish everyone a restful and festive time in the upcoming weeks!!

Week14 – GRA3611

Hello – We are getting very close!

Today’s goal is to finish off any loose ends.

Final
CARP will come next week for final class – to review the work and select the final logo. They will also give us a summary of how the campaign to stop the Rockaway Pipeline played out.

  • Your final styleguide should be in my dropbox by end of class. I will send to them for review.
  • Finish off the required cards (see below in red). Everyone is supposed to come in to class this week with a printed out version of your cards.

Grading
05% Cards Template
05% Cards Back
05% Cards #10
05% Logo Sketches
05% Logo Draft1

Total = MIDTERM Grade
10% Style Guide
20% Poster
20% Final Cards:should include #10 card in all 4 suits, at least 1 specialty card: Joker/Jack/Queen/King/Ace, and the back of the card. If you can get me more than one specialty card great, but I prefer quality over quantity.
10% Final Logo
05% Field Trip
10% Class participation
Total = FINAL Grade

Please note I do expect you to use some of the techniques in Illustrator we have covered over the course of the semester in your final work.

Week13 – GRA3611

Welcome back from Thanksgiving. Three weeks to go!

CARP was so grateful for your work. They were really sorry they were not able to use everyones but they had a tight and unforgiving deadline. To recap they held off until Wednesday and then had to go to print. The posters were posted all around town on Thursday and Friday. There were 5 posters that made it into the final print, 250 were printed and posted primarily in the Rockaways and Williamsburg. There were very well received. They were hoping to print a second round but because of the time and cost constraints they are not able to do it.

Week12 – GRA3611

Hello,

Here is the updated template file with the functioning QR code. I have included two AI files: one with the text outlined, and one with the original type. The font is also included in case you need to edit: CARP-Poster-Template

And to recap these were the major copy changes (in red) from today:

Email me if you have questions.
Please put your final poster with your name (PDF) into the final dropbox folder titled:
Stage5-PosterDesign-FINAL‘ by Sunday at noon 11.24.13 (or before if you can!).

———————————–

Hello all –

I am so sorry about my unfortunate migraine episode in class last week. At least it hit towards the end of class and I had seen just about everyone’s work. And I should add really great stuff. It’s very exciting to see. I’m sorry if I left any question unanswered. Please email me if you want to run something by me and make sure you update the folder in dropbox titled: ‘Stage4-PosterDesign-Draft1’

Please see this blurb from an email I just received from Mareen. There are some powerful images in case you want to use in your poster:

Recently, the pipeline company submitted visual simulations of their summer construction.
The images they provided begin on page 76 in the attached document.
I think the one I like best is on page 83, and I would crop it…
Please see this document: 20131018-5181(28841312)–Transco-CZM_Consistency_Addendum

Next week CARP will come and review the posters. I have not yet confirmed with them what time they are coming, but I’m guessing early. We will have an in-class critique. The goal will be to make final changes and submit to them as PDFs for printing. They will provide us with the URL for the QR code next week.

Let me know if you have questions. Enjoy what’s left of the weekend!

Week11 – GRA3611

Hello everyone – welcome to Week 11!!

This week we will be focusing on the CARP poster.
Here is the time-frame for the assignment:

11.13.13 – Template provided – see here: GRA3611-PosterTemplate.ai

The template, above, should ensure that the fine-print copy appears consistent on all posters. You may change the color.
The font used here is Gotham (Kate’s suggestion). I’ve created to outline in the version here, in case you do not have the original font. We can discuss details this Weds.
