Week4 – ADV1162

On October 2, 2012, in Week4, by Genevieve HItchings

Hello,

Welcome to week 4.
Thank you for your taglines – some interesting ones. Be sure to read through them all – posted in Week 3 under comments.

In-class
Due Today (Monday 10.01)
:
1. Post 4 possible taglines to this blog.
2. From your tagline develop 3 pencil or ink sketches of a possible poster concept. Sketches MUST have a border around them.
3. Moodboard – keep in mind your moodboard should show evidence of your research. Your moodboard should define what a democracy is. I expect to see historical references relating to voting, freedom, government, independence…

Remember you should have a specific target audience in mind and you should be able to explain how your sketches address that target audience and encourage them to go out and vote.

Sketches go up on the wall at the beginning of class, although we will not be critiquing them as a class until next week. Today we will reviewing them individually.

Lesson in Illustrator
-> Pen tool
-> Review Compound Paths & Compound Shapes
-> Brushes
-> Type tool
-> Creating Outlines
-> Blob tool – Eraser tool
-> Masking

Labtime
-> Principals of good poster design (see handout here): ADV1162_DesignPrincipals
-> Self and peer assessment worksheet (see handout here): ADV1162_AssessmentWorksheet
-> Here is a copy of the designer you signed up to present. Please keep track of the date for your presentation: ADV1162-ClassPresentations

*Note: I would like to collect an annotated bibliography from each of you on the day of your presentation. You must include a peer reviewed source, a multi-media source, a popular media source, and a book. And you must use MLA style. This project bridges with an assignment you are working on in Professor Devers class as part of our learning community, so use your time wisely!

Homework
-> Refine Poster sketches based on what was discussed in class today.
-> Refine moodboard -> the moodboard is a collage and must show evidence of historical research (even if you do not end up using what you site in your final poster). It proves to me (your client) that you researched and understand the subject matter you are designing for.
-> I would like to collect your Assessment Worksheet along with your Moodboard next week – so please DO NOT LOSE!

Next week we will focus on creating the first draft of your final poster. You can work in both Illustrator and Photoshop – note: type in Illustrator, images in Photoshop
